At least 40 local musicians will take to the stage at Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam on December 8, in a festival to commemorate Tanzania's 50th Independence anniversary. Addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, the Chairperson of Tanzania Flavour Unit (TFU), Hamis Mwinjuma (Mwana FA), said that the festival among other things would at large extent help them to exchange ideas with the elderly musicians and he said, they expect to learn a lot from them.
"We want to mingle with the elders who will tell us what flavours we are missing in our music compared to their hey days," he said. Mwana FA added that in commemorating 50 years of independence, music has passed through different stages and it was better for them to go on stage and show their solidarity towards their achievements.
The Chairperson of the 'Old Music' artists, Waziri Ali, said that the event aims at strengthening cooperation between the 'oldies' and new generation musicians. He said, at the festival, music artists of the new generation would sing the old songs and the elderly musicians would sing the new generation's songs such as 'Bongo Fleva' so as to add flavour in the music.
"We want to entertain our fans in a special way as we mark the 50 years of independence," he said. He noted that there was an interpretation in the society that music artists were not working collectively but during the festival, he said, the society would be forced to change their mindset and observe how the musicians in the country were devoted to each other.
A veteran musician, King Kikii, also urged for more support from their fans and other stakeholders so that their music could be promoted. Banana Zoro said that the festival with a message "50 years old, 50 years youth" encourages people to come out in their numbers to participate because it would be a historical event and would provide fans with a memorable entertainment.
